Transponder Key Programming Across Somerset

A transponder key has a small electronic chip in the plastic head. When inserted into the ignition, the car sends a radio signal to wake the chip; the chip responds with a unique code, and if it matches what is stored in the immobiliser, the engine is allowed to start. Without a correctly programmed chip, the car cranks but does not fire.

A key cut at a standard hardware shop will operate the door lock and ignition barrel mechanically — but if it does not contain a programmed transponder chip, the engine will not start. We supply and programme the chip as well as cutting the key.

Most cars built since the mid-1990s have one. A common sign is a small key-shaped warning light on the dashboard that illuminates briefly at start-up. If you are unsure, give us your make, model and year and we will confirm.
